More Star Wars dolls: Obi-Wan and Anakin

My Big Epic (Christmas) Project™ was to make two more felt dolls to add to El's growing Star Wars doll collection. I drew up my own patterns because I wanted to avoid button-jointed legs, and change the shape of the torso, shoulders and face.

I was a bit anxious about getting Obi-Wan's beard and moustache right, but I'm really pleased with how he turned out!


The doll bodies are made with 100% wool felt from here (a shop with such gorgeous natural toys it was a struggle not to spend a fortune there), and the tunics are made from repurposed maternity t-shirts(!) making them very soft and cuddly. They were revealed on Christmas morning to giggles of delight and currently split their time between El's bed and Kiki's new pram.

A few more firsts from 2010...

My first ever messenger bag using a fantastic tutorial at mmmcrafts. The lovely colourful fabric is Frederika from Ikea. We added a few cute buttons El chose from Purlesque in Liverpool.
I also made my first ever dress for Kiki using the Sweet Little Dress pattern by Leila & Ben, and added a dinosaur applique.


And I made a couple of prototype dolls based on patterns I drew up myself. Angelica (who still needs a proper blouse, since my attention span didn't last quite long enough):

And Anna Rose, who is sweet despite being literally two-faced (her hair is a little felt pocket that flips over):

Lucy Love

I made "Lucy" as a present for my daughter's birthday, using the Wee Wonderfuls Kit, Chloe and Louise pattern. I used unbleached calico and she turned out a little pale so I added some pink cheeks.
She's a lovely-proportioned doll, very huggable, and El loves her! This was my first attempt at yarn hair, and it wasn't as difficult as I expected. Although, thanks to the baby, those Leia buns are already a little out of place...

I made these two by adapting Mimi Kirchner's hand-sewn felt doll pattern. Leia's dress is vintage (haha!) 1980's Barbie, and was supposed to be temporary, but aparently this Princess Leia is a fan of pink.
